Cosmos, Leopards secure spots

-

CHAMPIONS Golden Arrows wrapped up their campaign with a win yesterday, while Jomo Cosmos and Black Leopards secured their play-off berths on the final day of National First Division action.

Arrows were 2-1 winners over Highlands Park at the Makhulong Stadium, where they received the NFD trophy after the match.

Abafana bes’Thende went in front in the 27th minute through Sibusiso Sibeko, who cut in from the left flank before beating Tapuwa Kapini with a curling shot in at the far post.

The match was squared at 1-1 nine minutes after the restart when Teboho Kalake netted after a nicely worked move by the host team. But Arrows’ Nxumalo scored 10 minutes from time.

Cosmos, meanwhile, beat Cape Town All Stars 2-0 at the Athlone Stadium to end any hopes Igugu Lekapa had of making the play-offs.

The victories for Cosmos and Leopards meant that a 3-2 win for Thanda Royal Zulu FC over GaRankuwa United at the Umhlathuze Sports Complex was not enough to see the KZN side into the play-offs because they finished in fourth spot.

Milano United finished in sixth spot, one position behind neighbours All Stars, despite a 3-1 loss to FC Cape Town at Erica Park. – ANA
