THOSE of youwho are old enough to remember the crime drama Twin Peaks will be ecstatic to learn about Wayward Pines, simply because the two have the same feel.

If you have read Pines, by Blake Crouch ,and you are one of those purists who like to argue about the merits of the book over the televised version, then the conversation we are about have is not for you. If, however, you are a crime and thriller fanatic, tired of the usual bombs-and-guns bumble-gum TV shows, then Wayward Pines could be your cup of tea.

THE STORY ( Spoiler alert) Set in a mysterious small town in Idaho called Wayward Pines, we meet Secret Service agent Ethan Burke (played by Matt Dillon) who wakes up injured in a dodgy hospital (think of the first scenes in Fox’s hit show, The Walking Dead). The dim lighting in the hospital plays havoc with your curiosity. What is behind the many shadows in the room? Soon it is revealed that Burke is the survivor of an accident which presumably killed his partner. Burke tries to find out where he is, but is confounded by an entire community of suspiciously happy people who give him answers that do not make sense. His cop instincts kick in when he realises that there may be an elaborate scheme to keep him imprisoned in Wayward Pines for ever. So, basically, it boils down to Burke trying to break free and return to his family.

CAST WHILE the most important thing about any TV story’s development is the strength of the script, the appeal of the cast plays a very important role. Star-power, as they call it,
