Crow honours murdered pensioner

- BARBARA COLE

ANGELA Croucamp, the 79-year-old pensioner who was murdered at her Tafta Park cottage in Bellair earlier this month, was honoured by the Centre For Rehabilitation of Wildlife (Crow).

As police continue their investigation into her murder on January 3, Croucamp’s friends at Crow in Yellowwood Park, where she had been a volunteer for 17 years, gathered to plant a wild olive tree in her memory on Friday.

Croucamp’s ashes were buried beneath the tree.

“Angela loved being at Crow, so we decided this would be a great resting place for her,” said her cousin, Heather Thistleton.

When she first started volunteering at Crow, Croucamp, who lived on the Bluff before moving to Tafta, helped clean the offices. She went on to help the organisation in almost all aspects, including preparing and delivering food to Crow’s patients.

She stopped only in 2015 when she became frail.

Crow clinic nurse, Sue-Ann Shutte, a good friend of 19 years, recalled that Croucamp lifted everyone’s spirits with her positive attitude and zest for life.

“Angela was a good person and was loved by everyone. She wanted to be a part of Crow and her passion for the work we do was infectious.” she said.

Crow director Paul Hoyte said it was volunteers like Croucamp who kept Crow going.

“We salute Angie for a life well lived and for her dedicated service to Crow,” he said.

More than 200 mourners attended her memorial service at Tafta Park last week. She had lived there since 2011.

Police said it was believed she had been strangled. The suspects, who robbed her of electrical items, had also bound her hands and legs.
