Zuma must intervene to stop cowardly attacks in Inchanga

- ISAAC LUTHULI

PRESIDENT JACOB Zuma – a man with a history of bringing peace in KwaZulu-Natal: He brought peace during political violence in the province, his intervention in Inchanga is in demand more than ever before.

Who must die before political leadership intervenes in Inchanga?

Many families have lost their loved ones, some of whom were breadwinners, but still there is no will at the level of senior political leadership to intervene.

The brutality of the killings in Inchanga, which seem to be a pattern aimed at defenceless females, is worrisome.

The thugs who target women and the manner in which they discharge this assignment leave one with an impression that they are wellplanned attacks from a high office with resources.

It is out there for everyone to see that these ambush attacks are seemingly conducted by full-time hired assassins.

It is women who are dying in Inchanga, leaving behind destitute children.

At a time when the ANC Women’s League is talking about a female president, it would make sense for it to defend women who have been at the forefront of campaigning for the ANC and remain members despite the vicious attacks being meted out against them.

Everyone in the leadership of KZN is talking peace, whereas the opposite is taking place on the ground.

The operation of the metro police is also questionable.

Strangest of all is that it is known that these killings erupted during the build-up to local government elections and some of the activities provided discomfort to the leadership of the ANC, especially the emergence of the independent councillor “Ikhansela Lomphakathi”.

How do you then entrust a people that have a history of rigging elections with working with the SAPS and metro police to bring about calm in an area like Inchanga?

What is happening in Inchanga is a politically informed attack with the police service turning a blind eye.

Some time ago we made a call for Zuma to intervene in bringing an end to these cowardly attacks.

We made this request on the basis that he was state president and leader of the ANC.

A state of emergency should have been declared in Inchanga a long time ago. We are calling upon people of Inchanga to refuse to take up arms because of these barbaric attacks.

This place has a history of violence. People who are responsible for this violence should stop.

The community of Inchanga deserves peace, it produced a leader who is politically clear and administratively sound in Cde James Nxumalo.

After sorting out the mess in eThekwini Metro, even bringing about a clean audit and delivering services to the people, he was removed by his organisation (ANC) and such was accepted as “democracy” even by his community. This community is now subjected to brutal attacks by izinkabi.

Those who are entrusted with responsibility to lead must lead and forget about former leaders.
