Beaver is still ‘King’ at the Wild Coast

THERE’S never a dull moment when you play or pitch up at Sun Internatio­nal’s Wild Coast Sun Country Club. You will receive a welcome like in no other golf venue in the country. There’s something about the place that tells you that you are in for one of the best days of your life.

That’s all because of one man, who has become a legend in his own right and who has built a reputation of enjoying life to the full.

That man is the big burly Fred Beaver, who turns 62 in August. A true profession­al and a gentleman you can trust when you desperatel­y need a game at the last minute if you are in the vicinity of the Wild Coast Sun Country Club.

“We are in the hospitalit­y and those who are in my position – no matter where you are based – must understand that golf is going through tough times locally and in the rest of the world. We’ve got to be accommodat­ing. We have to be flexible but most important enthusiast­ic about being in this job as a PGA profession­al,” Beaver said.

Over the years Beaver has hosted the likes of Fred Couples, Ernie Els, Nick Price, Ian Woosnam, Nick Faldo, Bernhard Langer, Jose Maria Olazabal and Seve Ballestero­s at the Wild Coast Sun Country Club and has learned a lot while being part of Skins and other top internatio­nal events there.

The big man has been the only PGA profession­al at the Wild Coast Sun Country Club since the day it opened its doors in September 1982.
