Fusing various aspects of art, dance philosophy and culture, Naach – the Nature of Dance is a representative of the diverse culture director Iqraam Rahim is exposed to as a South African and participant of the Indian diaspora.
“I believe that dance is a language, with this in mind I explored the historical march that we commemorate annually as Women’s Day.

The performances are structured within a Bollywood framework and adds more depth to the common perspective of dance culture.
Rahim says the value of this production is seen in not only the combination of various dance styles it profiles, but also that it highlights the value of collaboration, marrying the dance ethos of today with long established schools of dance.
“As a production, it highlights the benefit of dance development, whether it be emotional, physical, spiritual or political,” he said.
Audiences will see the likes of Anisha Maharaj (52) step on stage after being retired from dance performance for just over 12 years; Kajal Misra (48), a seasoned Bharatanatyam performer; Shivani Singh, a Kathak graduate and cancer survivor who found her strength in dance; Heena Valabh, a classically trained dancer and medical student who will debut as a choreographer with an Afro-western-Kathak inspired dance work that is indicative of her proud heritage as a South African Indian.
