VBS looters must face jail and pay back the money

POLITICS

Those who looted VBS must be sent to jail. EFF must sing “pay back the money” as it is their song. Shivambu and his brother must pay that R16 million they allegedly looted from VBS. People invested in VBS with a hope of getting their money back. | WILLIAM MANOTO, WESTVILLE.

The ANC Women’s League, Gender Commission and others object to the line of crossexamination in the Omotoso trial – until it comes to any of them or their family put on trial. Nomvula Mokonyane would even like to see the law changed so that an accused must prove his innocence!

So much has been looted in South Africa by government officials and their cronies, one would think that these people have university degrees in corruption.

Saudi Arabia wants to purchase a stake in Denel. I just hope this doesn’t materialise, because as long as the Guptas are living in Dubai I don’t trust this venture. We went down this road before and now our country is almost bankrupt. | RAYMOND HARRIPARSAD

The Zuptas remind me of the Pied Piper. They played their flutes and asked the head honcho, his family, deployees and cronies to follow and collect their loot. A brilliant ploy to capture the state.

The law or regulations should be amended to force the Public Investment Corporation to publicly disclose, on a monthly basis, all investments it has made. The PIC should no longer be allowed to covertly invest the pension funds of current and retired government employees.

If it’s not Zuma it’s Dlamini, and if not Ace then it’s State Capture and now Nene, if not farm murders, then it’s free tax, and free land grabs. This sorry state of affairs, crime and looting is a never-ending story. What is required is a complete overhaul/ clean-up of all the corruption, then only can SA sail smoothly and economically forward again. | BABA SALOOJEE, DURBAN.

Commission of Inquiry once again adjourned. Looks like by the time the commission finalises, the culprits involved in state capture will have probably escaped or used up the money. When are Molefe, Anoj Singh, Ngubane, Myeni, Hlaudi, Muthambi, Dlamini, Magashule, Mahumapelo, Brown and others going to appear before the commission?

South Africans are far too forgiving. Mmamathe Makhekhe Mokhuane’s apology is an empty one since no one is any the wiser as to why she gave those mindboggling responses (quite distinct from her demeanour) to the Nugent Commission. The question that needs to be asked and answered is whether she is sufficiently rational to head any department.

ODDS AND ENDS

The Omotoso trial places attorneys on notice that ordinary citizens are no longer going to tolerate degrading cross-examination making a woman an accused in sexual assault cases. Advocate Peter Daubermann must re-learn law in a constitutional state which guarantees women a right to reasonable, equitable and fair cross-examination in rape cases. | SAM

I am a firearm owner and I also pay my protection money (tax) to the government and do not have any faith in the police. How many crimes have been reported and how many have been resolved, and what is the response time for SAPS to crimes perpetrated against normal citizens? | JP

The sad story about the death of the Chilean tourist in our country, and especially KZN, is an indication of what type of people live among us. God Bless his family.

If you are deciding on doing business with Telkom, think again. It is virtually impossible to cancel the rubbish service they provide, which you are still paying for even after cancelling the service. They always fix something that is not broken, and what needs fixing stays broken. Phone calls and emails don’t get answered, ever. It is impossible to get any response. Do they even realise the damage they are doing to business?
