Escaped prisoners danger alert

THE two prisoners who made a daring escape at the Joburg’s South Gauteng High Court two days ago are still at large.

Gauteng police spokesperson Captain Mavela Masondo said awaiting trialists Mongezi Mcunukelwa, 31, and Sbonelo Nkosingiphile Thwala, 25, were still being traced by a team of senior detectives who were also investigating the circumstances of the escape.

The two had been appearing at the court when they pulled off the escape at around 2pm on Wednesday.

Masondo, who would not be drawn on the details of the escape, said the pair posed a serious danger to the public as they were facing serious charges

Both of the accused face two counts of murder.
