Fake notice for pupil enrolment

-

THE Western Cape Education Department (WCED) yesterday warned of a fake enrolment notice doing the rounds in Dunoon in Cape Town.

The fake advert reads: “2020 Grade 8 and Grade 1 pupil enrolment is currently open for all schools in the Western Cape. Registration is open until March 15. You cannot register pupils directly at the school, all you need to do is come at Silulo Ulutho Technologies bring your ID, your child’s birth certificate, the last report and you will be charged a fee of R50.”

The WCED said the contents of the notice were of great concern.

“Firstly, parents must enrol at the school or on the WCED website. Secondly, parents cannot be charged a fee to enrol their child at a school. Thirdly, the WCED’s branding was used without our permission,” WCED spokesperson Bronagh Hammond said.

The WCED said it called the company on the notice and a man from the Dunoon office confirmed they were encouraging parents to register online with them and said he was asked to do so by a WCED school.

According to the man, the R50 was to provide internet access.

“The WCED investigated further and called the school in question. The principal said that he has had no engagement with the company. Parents may collect paper-based application forms from the school,” said Hammond. Admissions close on March 15.
