Tax Ombud set for awareness roadshow
THE OFFICE of the Tax Ombud (OTO) is expected to embark on roadshow in KwaZulu-Natal next week to connect with the public, businesses and key stakeholders, to promote fairness and to increase awareness of its services.
This is part of the its Annual Performance Plan for 2019/20 directing the ombud to continue to participate in dialogues, interactive exhibitions, presentations at various institutions, stakeholder engagements and outreach campaigns.
The events, organised under the theme: We Speak
Fairness, are part of an effort to promote compliance and promote taxpayers’ rights.
Tax Ombud Judge Bernard Makgabo Ngoepe said the goal was to promote a fair tax administration and maintain a balance between Sars’ powers and duties and the taxpayer’s rights and obligation.
“Besides spreading awareness about the services of OTO, the roadshow seeks to give taxpayers the opportunity to share their views, identify areas that need intervention, in order address queries about the country’s tax system,” said Judge Ngoepe.
The Tax Ombud called on taxpayers to attend the events to have all their tax queries answered.
One of the headline events will be held at The Garden Court, Marine Parade on March 19.
There will also be activations at the Gateway Mall from March 18 to 24 from 9am to 6pm.
