INCORPORATING the 2019 theme, ‘Designing for Africa – feels like home’, Decorex Durban has announced a number of new features in its extensive decor, design and lifestyle programme, taking place at the Durban Exhibition Centre from March 21 to 24.

“Part of Decorex Durban’s unique character is the manner in which the most current decor and design trends are represented in innovative new installations,” explained Sian Cullingworth, the Portfolio Director at Reed Exhibitions.

“Talented local designers collaborate with leading industry suppliers to craft imaginative features that give visitors a sensory understanding of what can be achieved through creative decor ideas. We are excited to announce a number of new features this year, all of which will perfectly depict Africa’s influence on decor and design.”

This year Decorex Durban welcomes the InStudio Trend Theatre by Absa – a unique, free-flow forum that encourages the engagement of South Africa’s design influencers, manufacturers and decor professionals.

The inspiration continues at the Design Project where leading designers, including Larkhouse and Zingela Interiors, will create on-trend room settings that incorporate this year’s theme. Then it’s on to the Decorex Designer Spotlight where KwaZuluNatal designer Jennifer Jones will showcase her style and creations in a room setting.

The influence of decor on fashion – and vice versa – will be seen on the runway as Inscape Education Group presents 2nd Skin, a unique fashion show where students have re-purposed furniture into fashion pieces. The continent’s position in design globally will be visually represented in Decorex International, a unique installation by four top designers, reflecting decor from Durban through to London, Paris and New York.

Family will form the focus of the latest features’ addition – The Playroom Children’s Décor Project – where decor specialists will collaborate with furniture manufacturers to give parents a real-world view of innovative bedroom settings for children. And for those seeking literary inspiration, The Library by EFAM will be stocked with magazines and books featuring the latest in decor, music, fashion, design, cooking and lifestyle.

Hungry visitors will find suitable satiation at Dine & Design Restaurant + Bar, an African-inspired restaurant with gourmet offerings, while Fudart strEATERY – a taste of Africa will introduce the unique flavours of the continent into a streetwise dining experience.
