eThekwini must drop fixed charges on municipal bills

POLITICS

ANC MP Yunus Carrim, look no further, you have blinkers, just scroll through the staff appointments at the eThekwini Municipality – 30% of the vacancies not filled, no suitable candidates, nonsense, only black appointments, without fail. Check all appointments, 90% blacks, the minority groups are left out. Why are minorities not given the opportunities?

Southern Africa’s earnest request for the world to drop sanctions against Zimbabwe is notable – presumably this will include a return of land to dispossessed farmers? | Edmac

CHRISTCHURCH

Why have social media companies deleted the Christchurch mosque attack video when they played videos of the 9/11 attacks by Arabs, the killing of al-Qaeda prisoners, the shooting of dancegoers by Isis supporters, etc, over and over again? Reading something and viewing it evoke different reactions. The shock, outpouring of grief and the stirring of people’s humanity regardless of race, creed or belief, as exhibited, is precisely because people worldwide were finally witness to the cold-blooded actions of this man. Without the video, certain media outlets and leaders would have sought some palatable reason for his actions. The murderer live-streamed the incident, giving credence to the assertion that “terrorism has no religion”.

Norwegian mass murderer \Anders Behring Breivik, who killed 77 people in a mass attack in Oslo, is serving 21 years in prison. I doubt the NZ killer of 49 people will serve much more. Is it coincidence that the worst mass killings are done in countries without the death penalty?

LOAD SHEDDING

With load shedding taking our power away for at least 14 hours a week, that’s if we’re lucky, and some days it’s three times a day, surely the eThekwini Municipality must now drop fixed charges on all our bills?

Load shedding, but the cost of electricity will increase.

Minister Gordhan, you can’t be seriously telling the public to understand that many power stations are 37- to 50-years old. What was the ANC government doing for 25 years? Building new power stations that are not designed properly, or busy crippling the very same old stations? You want to save Eskom? Here’s a way. You and government take your hands off Eskom. You can’t blame apartheid for this one. You tried, you have been tested, and have been found wanting. | DV

Load shedding on Saturday night, 10pm to midnight. Now on a Sunday night. Eskom are sure major contenders for the series, South African heroes.

Load shedding I believe is a sham! We are all being held to ransom and our lives and businesses are being destroyed. The same with Telkom. People will be out of work soon as alternative technology is implemented. ANC, thank you for nothing and messing people around. | J.P.

Lots of new electric cars to come. A big useless flop. How can we ever charge them? | GCR.

I as a non-Muslim know that the reasoning behind this is to make Muslims aware that the food served therein is halaal and they can eat there with a clear conscience. It has nothing to do with other religions. | Ros
