Politics needs redressing, but not top dressing

-

Why should we expect the NHI to be any different to Eskom, SAA, the Post Office, Sassa and all the other SOEs? It will be driven by the same incompetent corrupt ministers and officials.

So the NHI being pushed through will be completely state-owned. How can the state possibly start a new SOE when all the others are bankrupt and years away from ever being fixed? The second concern is how will the state hospitals be magically fixed to cope with all the extra patients? People are still dying like flies in government hospitals.

If an NHI system is started how do we stop the rest of Africa arriving here for free medical treatment? It’s a magnet that will attract people by the millions. Or is everyone welcome? | Mike.

Our Parliament is failing to act promptly in respect of the Public Protector. Parliament was previously chastised for failing to act in terms of its mandate when senior politicians, including Zuma, lied. With overwhelming evidence of incompetence one would have expected Parliament to commence its capacity enquiry into the PP to hold office.

Change mentality: political parties and municipalities et al must change their motivational speakers because incumbents have them solely motivated by selfishness and greed. With change comes progress. One cannot solve problems using the same mentality that caused them. Sadly the stragglers factional or fashionable are forcibly holding back change and progress of our beloved country. Like climate change, politics too needs redressing, but it needs top management, not top dressing. Top education will help.

Jacob Zuma has caused untold damage to our country for allowing the Guptas to capture our SOEs and then denying it.

President Ramaphosa is doing a good job trying to keep the country out of junk status. Maybe more decisiveness with corrupt individuals in the ANC would show us you mean business. If you hold all the thugs that protest and destroy government property, we can take you seriously. If you table a law that anyone who destroys government property be tried for treason. If you cannot control your own ANC members you leave us with the likes of the EFF destabilising the country. We want mature politicians that are decisive and can restore law and order in our country. We do not want to be another failed state in Africa.

Looking at and listening to the financial state of our country, I suggest that every government and municipal official earning more than R1 million per annum take a compulsory salary cut of 20%. As a Sassa pensioner earning R1 780 per month, I pay the same for a loaf of bread and a litre of milk. I probably do more work to keep my property clean than they do to keep our cities and country clean. | Denton, Durban. So President Ramaphosa says there’s no reason why women cannot own land and that they should be able to farm land. That’s a bright idea and he should start with the king’s 2.8 million hectares of land first. The king is more a liability than an asset. He has six palaces, I think, and six wives and does anybody know what he’s doing with such vast tracts of land? He earns R1 million a month and says it’s too little and he gets lots of freebies. His subjects should contribute towards his upkeep if they want a king. Why should my tax go towards his lavish lifestyle? | Alan.

ETHEKWINI MUNICIPALITY

If the city is really serious about cleaning up Durban then they should start by getting rid of all the vagrants loitering under the M4 bridge. Not only are they making a mess but it is dangerous for drivers as they are on the road.
