◆ MTN share price gains 5 percent as Nigeria withdraws tax demand: Shares in Africa’s largest mobile operator, MTN, rose as much 5 percent on Friday as the operator announced that Nigerian authoritie­s had withdrawn a $2n (R28.54bn) tax demand.

◆ Rand Merchant Investment Holdings (RMI) says Australian bushfires may cost its subsidiary R400 million: RMI said its Australian subsidiary, Youi, has estimated it could incur gross losses of as much as A$40m (R400m) as a result of bushfires in that country. ◆ Sibanye swoops on DRDGold, taking control: Sibanye-Stillwater launched its option to buy DRDGold shares cheaply and take a majority stake in the listed tailings-retreatmen­t specialist for R1bn.
