Social media users had their say after the grim news of the latest unemployment figures – Statistics SA reported that 2.2 million more people have lost their jobs
@ Sydneymahala1
On October 2018, President Cyril Ramaphosa organised a job summit after ( announcing it) in his 2018 State of the Nation Address, where he highlighted that jobs, especially for the youth, would be at the centre of the 2018 national agenda. Has this been a failure?
@ Disang_ Moabi_ Unemployment is becoming a normal life for us, now that we are losing jobs every day. Mainly youth are jobless. It is hard for them to plan their future if they don’t have job. It’s really bad
@ Lethabak
It’s an unfortunate situation and I wouldn’t blame the government for the loss of jobs now due to the Covid- 19 pandemic that attacked the world, but my worry is that our government doesn’t seem to have a recovery plan for these losses of jobs. @ realmariso
It is very sad and we can’t blame ( people) here. Covid- 19 is the one to blame, so we must have faith that we will get back to normal life again... @ Ntokozocebs
The high unemployment rate was there way before the pandemic arose. The ruling party adds to the current situation, due to corruption and thieving. Nothing has been done to remedy the situation.

Unemployment is a big problem, that’s why crime is so high. People have degrees, but when you apply for a job, they’ll tell you about experience. How will you gain experience if you haven’t worked?

Municipalities must eradicate corruption and employ locals to secure local infrastructure, that is keep their wards clean, maintain security at parks for children. Labor unions must stop this continuous striking, business is going under and they just don’t care. @ Phakzophakamani
The reality is that we have a lot of unemployed people in this country. Worse, big companies are retrenching workers day in and day out. We are in trouble.
@ Obzaa8_ m
It’s very sad for those who lost their job. There’s a little hope to find another job in this depressed economy.
@ mshikashika90
Am not surprised by our government. Every year, they promise job opportunities but they are not creating them.
@ Michael36655917
I don’t think we will recover from this, because our government is looting everything in the state. In 10 years we will be like Zimbabwe.
@ Rikesh_ I_ am
Let’s face facts, it’s far worse than those figures. We’re always getting these dismal stats. What is the government doing to change it?
