Killer storms, floods batter Asian states
HANOI: At least 46 people have been killed during storms and floods battering Vietnam and Cambodia, authorities said yesterday.
Vietnamese authorities reported 12 more people died in the devastating floods yesterday, taking the death toll in the country to 36.
Among the dead were 30 people who were swept away by floods, three who drowned at sea, and three others who were electrocuted during a clean- up. Cambodian state media reported that at least 10 people had died, more than 30 000 homes had been flooded, and thousands of people evacuated. Flash floods continue across much of the country.
Over 30 people were trapped by landslides in Vietnam but their fate was unknown. Further flash floods are expected after tropical storm Nangka made landfall in northcentral Vietnam yesterday.
