Social media users reacted to the news that Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize presented regulations that could allow him to restrict the movement of South Africans per his discretion in the case of public health risks

A little before Covid- 19 we didn’t know who this doctor was. But one thing we know is he failed as a health minister. The state of our health system is deteriorating with lack of doctors and short- staffed hospitals and clinics that can’t allocate proper medication.

@ Senzo__ S

The lockdown did more harm than good. We can’t be subjected to these ridiculous restrictions Mkhize wants to impose. Life should continue, we are hungry, businesses die and now you want to destroy more with your restrictions. @ Afranzsen

When a majority of my generation rebelled against the Nationalist apartheid regime, because we realised it was wrong, many of our parents and grandparents warned us that the ANC would turn this country into a one- party state, and drag it down to a level on a par with other countries in Africa.

The minister should ask himself if this was pre 94 and the government wanted to implement these regulations, would he allow it?

@ Ask4chad

Restrict South Africans from what? Where is our freedom? Are we government prisoners?

If we get restricted, government officials should also be restricted by the same laws. Why should we abide by your rules and regulations when you cannot abide by them yourselves?

@ rcmuecke

All part of the finalisation of the SA Police State; whoever is surprised to hear this had their head in the sand for the last 7 months.

@ grobler_ ulrich

I knew this was looming, so did we all. No one can say people weren’t warned before this. It’s about control and always has been. These people don’t care about citizen safety but only their own agenda. Stop being naive. Fear, hate, anger are tools used to control. Wake up.

@ smichaelguthrie

We need to fight, while we can – before they ban protests on “health” grounds. @ Brozee14

That’s madness, he must control and manipulate his family. We’re not his subjects.

@ Sista_ P_ 80494

This is just the beginning, the worst is yet to come, didn’t think it will be so soon though @ Sipho_ Nkosi

People love power, he had a taste of giving out commands, now he doesn’t wanna let go. Welcome to South Africa.
