Accused teen killer dumps bail bid

- ANELISA KUBHEKA

THE mother of 3- year- old Kwamashu toddler, who was raped and murdered, said her alleged killer did the right thing abandoning his bail application yesterday.

The 15- year- old, known to the girl and her family, abandoned his bail application in the Ntuzuma Magistrate’s Court.

His matter was postponed to October 26 for further investigation.

“I’m very happy that he did that because he was going to get bail and live where … after what he did,” said the toddler’s mother.

At the time when the toddler’s body was discovered it was alleged that it had been covered with clothes belonging to a relative.

It’s alleged that two relatives, one of whom is the accused, were taken in for questioning and later released.

According to the police, the girl was left in the care of a relative while her mother went to work. When she returned home, she was informed that the little girl had gone missing.

Her body was found in the bushes near her home on Vemvane Road at M Section.

She had sustained stab wounds to her body as well as a head injury.

When police arrested the teenager for the murder, a weapon thought to have been used to commit the offence was recovered.

Meanwhile, another KZN family hopes that the arm of the law will reach the killers of Alwande “Fana” Mtshali, 3.

The little boy was found buried, with his legs protruding above ground, on Tuesday.

He was found at a spot on the family property at their homestead in Mhlumayo, Ladysmith.

He had been shoved into a hole dug for fencing poles. According to the family, the hole had been dug out some more to extend it to fit in Alwande.

“As family we don’t have enemies. What I know is that some people did this to him and we will let the law run it’s course. Only God knows what happened to him and through him justice will be served,” said his grandmother Ntombifuthi.

Social Development spokesperson Mhlaba Memela said it was painful to lose so many children in the province regardless of the number of campaigns aimed at their protection.
