Deputy Minister leads Pinkdrive campaign in Newcastle
THE Deputy Minister for Social Development, Hendrietta Bogopane- Zulu, recently launched a Pinkdrive campaign in Kwazulu- Natal, in partnership with the United Nations Population Fund.
The campaign, which kicked off in Madadeni, Newcastle, seeks to create awareness about cancer, and also provides education and health- related services to communities. Pinkdrive is a significant player in the cancer sector. It is bringing critical screening to KZN, where health care facilities are struggling to accommodate these additional screening services during Covid- 19.
The campaign includes free education on women’s health, free pap smears for cervical cancer and free clinical breast examinations, mammograms and PSA screening for men over the age of 40. Community members will also have an opportunity to be tested for Covid- 19.
Bogopane- Zulu’s 10- year partnership with Pinkdrive has reached more than 10 000 people in the rural communities across South Africa. She has been deployed as a District Champion in Majuba under the District Development Model, and used the visit to engage local communities on service delivery- related matters.
The Department of Social Development is committed to strengthening families, empowering women and educating both males and females about cancer, in order to afford all South Africans a chance to lead healthy lives.
