WELCOME to the first edition of our SPORTS DRIPS feature. We will be looking at the latest sportswear trends from around the world, and from time to time we will drop into the past to give you that nostalgic feel on some of the legendary sports gear from all the brands that have been dominant in the market across various codes from running to basketball to soccer. The focus will be on how the technology and design impacts each sport, and we will also be letting you know which icon uses these items. In our first edition we will focus on soccer as the PSL kicks off with the MTN8 this weekend. We will be looking closer at some of the latest soccer boots released for the upcoming season from brands available in South Africa. The income generated from soccer boots was in excess of $ 24billion worldwide in 2019, according to Forbes Magazine. Soccer boots have developed dramatical­ly over the past few years, using very scientific research. The equipment has become lighter and more durable to make sure players are performing at their peak, which makes the game faster and much more exciting. These are some of the latest soccer boots for the upcoming season: Nike have launched the Phantom Elite, which seems to be popular in Europe. We might see Samir Nurkovic from Kaizer Chiefs wearing Nike’s Mercurial Vapour Superfly. Adidas has a new colour for its Predator worn by Bafana Bafana captain and new Orlando Pirates signing Thulani Hlatshwayo, while Puma’s Future Netfit and Ultra was popular with Mamelodi Sundowns’ Themba Zwane and Bafana striker Percy Tau.
