Fireworks expected at Zuma’s commission hearing
THE State Capture Commission remains mum on a series of statements by the Jacob Zuma Foundation and the former president which predict major conflict when Zuma appears before the commission.
Zuma is billed to appear from November 16 to 20 after Judge Raymond Zondo recently issued a summons to the former ANC leader, which the foundation slammed as ill- conceived and aimed at embarrassing him.
Recent statements from Zuma and the foundation show that they believe Zondo is biased and out to get the ex- president at any cost.
In his latest statement, Zuma said the commission’s decision to scrutinise the bank accounts of some of his children was shocking because they were never in government. He was responding to a news article which claimed the commission had asked banks to provide information on Gugu Zuma- Ncube, the brains behind Uzalo which airs on SABC 1. According to Zuma, this was persecution being extended to his children, and he vowed to challenge it.
“My children were not in government and should not be dragged into battles designed to destroy me. If they have become subjects of any investigation by the commission, they should be notified just like any other implicated person so that they can exercise their rights like any other implicated person.
“It is disappointing that the banks conspire in this way with unlawful investigations. Not even the apartheid regime conspired with banks to affect private accounts of children of those pursued by the state,” he said.
The commission’s spokesperson, Reverend Mbuyiselo Stemela, said they would not respond to Zuma’s accusations.
