DOCTORATES AT STADIO MASTER’S IN LAW ENFORCEMENT
FORMER Southern Business School chief executive Chris Vorster has moved to the helm of Stadio Higher Education just as the institution introduced two doctorate qualifications, in policing and management, for next year.
Over the past two decades, the School of Management for Safety in Society, under the umbrella of its previous institutional title of Southern Business School, has developed thousands of law enforcement officers and enabled their promotion in the workplace.
Southern Business School has been running a Bachelor’s degree and Honour’s degree in police practice since 1997.
The Master’s programme was recently accredited.
“The offering is now complete with the introduction of the doctorate,” said Stadio chief academic officer Dr Divya Singh.
“The idea is that your police leadership should be equipped with both the discipline, skills, knowledge and the underpinning academic bases,” Singh said.
Although the doctorate is a two- year programme, Stadio anticipates students will complete it in three to four years, given that they will be working while studying.
Singh said Stadio wanted to incorporate themed or focused research.
“Instead of five people researching five different things, the five students would collectively grapple with a specific problem. Once their research is complete, we will be able to pull together a holistic report.
“The research will then be handed to the police and can be used to advance policing.”
