Boks will have to do a lot better to win

IF LAST Saturday’s match between the Springboks and the Wallabies is anything to go by, then the Boks are going to be annihilated by the All Blacks this Saturday.

The Springboks were listless, directionless and lacked the intensity and motivation needed. Siya Kolisi did not shape, and is he really an inspirational leader and captain? Not once did I see him encouraging or talking to his players. Hooper, on the other hand, was continually urging his players on to do better – great encouragement from him.

Franco Mostert, an outstanding player, is not a flank. Marvin Orie was disappointing. Duane Vermeulen is past his best, and had no real influence on the game. What has become of Cobus Reinach? Handre Pollard needs a rest. Morne Steyn should start on Saturday. Johan Goosen, if over his Covid-19 quarantine, must be drafted in.

The Springboks, and the captain, will need a lot more fire in the belly if they hope to win on Saturday.
