Give new Miss SA a break, she is only human

ODDS AND ENDS

Ever since Lalela Mswane took the Miss South Africa crown she has been bad-mouthed. I feel like she has not been given praise in the way former queens have been praised. Give her a break. She is also human. | BERNICE DLAMINI

You can never have an effective police service when there’s infighting, corruption and incompetence at top levels of management. | ANELE MLOZANA

Can you imagine what a loss it would be to Eskom if we started looking for alternative sources of energy? If a huge number of those who are paying for electricity were to move off the grid, how would Eskom make any money? Because the majority want electricity for free, the result will be a drastic rise in cost of electricity or government subsidising electricity. | IMTIAZ KHAN

It is unfair to blame the government for the Moti boys’ kidnapping, because it is something that happens worldwide, even in countries with the best police forces. They apparently paid R50 million. The keyword being apparently, because no one knows the exact details, so how can anyone judge whether police are incompetent or not? Only the family can make that judgement and, as far as I know, they have not complained about the police. Anybody who can pay R50m ransom can afford to protect themselves and their families, because they know they are more at risk of been kidnapped. | LAEEQUAH HOFFMANN

How I wish this trend at Home Affairs of investigating bribery and corruption could be a cultural norm across all spheres of public service, in particular in the security cluster of our law enforcement agencies. This is needed in our police service, correctional services and justice departments, as well as in all state-owned enterprises, to root out all forms and manners of maladministration, with their associated ills, like nepotism, fraud and corruption. | MZOLISI KAXENGXE

POLITICS

These so-called ANC leaders picketing with staff are making a mockery of their pain. These “leaders“are supposed to run their organisation properly, but now they act with political motives, probably trying to make President Cyril Ramaphosa the villain. Disgusting leadership failures, the whole uncaring national executive committee. I GERALD BESTENBIER

It is sad that families have been broken due to non-payment. They must start everything from scratch. Policies have lapsed, their houses and cars on the verge of being repossessed. Let us be human. I stand with the workers here. I did not contribute, because I did not want my money to go to the wrong pockets, except employees.

I THEMBALAMA CHULUMANCO MTHABELA

But they are getting their salaries, no reason for solidarity when people are hungry and loosing their livelihood, after that you hop into your German SUV and drive off.

The ANC’S failure to pay salaries is a good sign that corruption has gone down. When they start paying them, we should know somewhere money is been siphoned. | ADOLF

John Steenhuisen is the worst leader the DA has ever produced. When he speaks, he does not think. The DA wants to govern Tshwane. How does it expect to do that without a majority? If the party does not vote for Herman Mashaba in Johannesburg, does he expect Mashaba to vote for the DA in Tshwane?
