Catch ‘How to Train your Human’ at the new theatre at Durban’s Shongweni Market
MICHAEL Taylor-broderick’s How to Train your Human will make its debut at the newly built theatre at the Shongweni Farmers’ and Craft Market on Saturday, December 11.
Inspired by the popular How to Train Your Dragon films and books, this family-friendly show will be staged every Saturday until January 8.
Directed by Stacey Taylor-broderick, the magical production focuses on teaching all attending “dragons” the skills needed to successfully train their humans.
Performed by two highly respected “dragons”, Mpilo Straw Nzimande and Kaylee Mcilroy, the production explores the five love languages to unravel the wonders and mystery of creating a path to the human heart and other humans around them.
Shongweni Farmers’ and Craft Market owners Keith and Christine Standeaven say they wanted to create a performance space to allow families to fall in love with the notion of live theatre again.
“Our market is all about wholesome outdoor family activity, the chance to enjoy some downtime outdoors to unwind, with great stalls, food and music,” said Christine.
The duo’s commitment to this noble vision has been the building of a brand-new theatre space snugly situated at the far side of the market overlooking a magnificent vista of valleys.
Taylor-broderick’s critically-acclaimed productions include whimsical One Man, One Light, the beautiful ethereal, Jakob, and the Gold Ovation Award-winning The King of Broken Things, which encourages grown-ups to revisit and re-inhabit the magical places in our minds.
The market is home to an amazing assortment of kids’ activities, food and beverage options, handmade crafts, early morning yoga sessions, live music, plenty of outdoor seating and safe parking.
How to Train your Human premieres on Saturday, December 11, at 10am and 12pm. Tickets are available at Quicket for R70.
