ACTIONSA in Kwazulu-natal has started looking for a new leader to replace Dr Makhosi Khoza, who was removed as a provincial chairperson recently.

In a move described by other party leaders as shocking, the national leadership asked Khoza to step down, saying it wanted her to focus on her new position as ethekwini’s Municipal Public Accounts Committee (MPAC) chairperson.

Actionsa provincial spokesperson Busi Radebe told the Daily News on Tuesday that the party would meet soon to appoint a new provincial chairperson, who will be tasked with the building of ground structures and prepare them for the 2024 general elections.

Radebe said the party felt Khoza would not be able to give proper attention to both positions, which are equally important.

“The Mpac is equivalent to Scopa (Standing Committee on Public Accounts), so this is an important position, which will need Khoza’s undivided attention and the party felt she should be relieved of her duties as the provincial chairperson,” said Rabede.

Khoza told the paper that as a disciplined member of the party she had to accept her party’s decision and has stepped down.

She said she was ready to roll in her new job and will hold her first meeting with the staff on Monday to get outstanding reports and other pending matters.

Khoza comes to the position with a wealth of experience, having served in both provincial legislature and Parliament Scopa committees.

She was helped by the ANC, her former party, to win the position against the DA’S Andre Beetge.
