Child trafficking and abuse increasing in SA
CHILDREN are still the victims of abuse, neglect, exploitation and other violence. This abuse has no ethnic, religious or cultural boundaries and the majority of the time the perpetrators are known to the children.
The Covid-19 pandemic and the floods have caused adults to focus more on building the economy or seeking employment, leaving children unattended, hence they are soft targets for traffickers.
The Department of International Relations and Co-operation said South Africa was recently elected as one of 14 countries selected by the
UN General Assembly as a member of the Human Rights Council, for the term 2023-2025.
In view of South Africa’s title, stricter measures should be implemented to protect children. Measures that involve CPFS, security companies, police stations, faithbased groups, and the community.
By educating and supporting communities, we empower children because they have a safe environment that priorities them and ensures they raise their own voices to protect themselves.
