A 27-YEAR-OLD woman alleged to have stabbed her boyfriend to death in Clermont and handing herself over to police five days later yesterday appeared in Pinetown Magistrate’s Court.

Mother of three Anele Gumede is alleged to have killed her boyfriend, Andreas Mzazi, on June 25.

The State yesterday said asked that the matter be adjourned for the regional prosecutor’s decision on the transfer of the matter from the district to the regional court.

At her first appearance on June 30 Gumede was granted R500 bail on condition that she relocated.

At her second appearance in July, the matter was adjourned for further investigations as the post-mortem report and witness statements were still outstanding.

By September when she appeared again, the post-mortem report and chain statements had been filed, and last month after the docket had been sent to the regional prosecutor it was adjourned to yesterday because one more chain statement was outstanding.

Gumede’s bail was extended and she was warned to ensure she was back in court on November 21.

The fact that Gumede had three minor children who depended on her swayed the court in granting her bail in June. Coupled with that, the State was not opposed to her release.

During her bid for bail she told the court in an affidavit that she was arrested at Izingolweni SAPS after handing herself over.

Imploring the court to release her on R500 bail that she could afford, she explained that her toddler and other minor children depended on her financially.

Investigating officer, Kwadabeka Warrant Officer Musa Ngcamu, in an affidavit said that Gumede had stabbed Mzazi where a witness was present.

The officer at the time also said his attitude to bail was that she be granted bail as she had handed herself over to police and did not possess any travel documents.

“The applicant has a fixed address and has three children, one of which is 18 months old.”

He was also not opposed to bail as Gumede provided an alternative address that was verified in Izingolweni.

Ngcamu said the State witness, who was also a relative of Mzazi, was in Clermont where the alleged murder happened.
