String of quakes hit Nepal, Italy and Fiji

KATHMANDU: At least three people are reported dead in the Doti District of Far-west Nepal after a magnitude 6.6 earthquake hit the area in the early hours of yesterday.

The Far-west region of Nepal recorded three tremors in 24 hours – two earthquake­s and one aftershock, the National Seismologi­cal Centre (NSC) of Nepal stated. The tremors were also felt in India’s capital New Delhi and its surroundin­g areas.

A magnitude 5.7 quake also shook Italy’s Adriatic coast yesterday, but caused no serious damage or injuries, according to initial reports.

The quake was felt as far away as Rome on the other side of the country, and in the northern regions of Veneto, Friuli and Trentino.

Three quakes also hit Fiji islands region but there were no tsunami warnings. |
