Afrikaans quips à la Ben Trovato

-

I HAVE recently noticed that two or three of our prolific letter writers are following in the footsteps of Ben Trovato and writing comedy sketches on relevant issues and topics. Marvellous!

There is undeniable talent out there. So, Ben, watch your back. The competition is hotting up.

I have also noticed the upswing in using Afrikaans quips and colloquial expressions to make a point, or to inject some humour into the piece. Afrikaans lends itself to humour.

Is this a new trend to show the authorities, and others, that Afrikaans is an authentic, indigenous and widely spoken language in South Africa, and that it needs to be preserved, as indeed it does? JOHN WHITLOCK | Germiston
