1532 Francisco Pizarro captures Inca Emperor Atahualpa after an ambush at Cajamarca. 1818 Carl August Pacalt, missionary of the London Missionary Society, dies at his mission station, Hoogekraal, George. The settlement is renamed Pacaltsdorp.
