It’s hard to believe that Chatsworth SAPS is the best

ODDS and ENDS

On November 16, 1860 the first batch of lndian slave labourers were brought to Durban to work as labourers on the sugar cane farms. Their entire life of struggle, pain, poverty, discrimination and beatings at the hands of white farmers are well documented in several books, so the young generation must not forget this terrible chapter of lndians in South Africa. | NARESH SINGH

Chatsworth SAPS the best police station in Kwazulu-natal is a clear indication of scraping the bottom of the dirt bin. Every street corner has a drug dealer, there are countless housebreakings, water pipes are stolen, municipal meters are stolen, hijackings, domestic violence, a community policing forum that fails annual financial audits, and endless corrupt practices within the police. It comes as no surprise how the nominations were done. | TJ

The Senzo Meyiwa trial In the Pretoria High Court: Why is this sickening case going live on TV? Consumption of liquor being highlighted… The worst publicity for the South African liquor industry. I wonder who is paying for this expensive case. | JADDY

Now ANC comrades use the term “military veterans”, because they know we lambasted them about the “war veterans”. That is when we asked which war did they fight? Military returnees, as they should be called, should know that being in the military they were employees, with benefits. Once employment is over, like any other employee you pack up and leave. If you did not save enough, it is up to you. Where on earth does an ex-employee come back and ask for benefits? The current public service employees are in need of an increase, while you are fighting for benefits for sitting at home and watching TV. There are no benefits, except an old age grant. You should have taken retirement annuities. |

KHELELO ROB MACHETHE

The cadre heading the SANDF in 1994, Dr Sydney Mufamadi, took a huge chunk of the fund meant for all the soldiers or whoever, bought himself a brand new house and nice popular German cars. Upgraded his life and his friends and relatives’ lives, completely ignoring the rest of the soldiers. So yes, suffering comes from that squandering. The real veterans who fought against the ills of the evil administration pre-1994 were left to slumber, while they were the ones who really suffered in exile. | KHANYI NDLOVU

EDUCATION

How many graduates are unemployed? Most of the unemployment graduates are better qualified than most ANC members of Parliament and most local councillors.

The ANC needs to admit that it has failed this country, and its citizens. | LEBOGANG SEMELA

The ANC has been slowly eroding our education system. My son works overseas as a software engineer. He qualified 20 years ago.

With ministers calling for the scrapping of science, maths and English, where do you think we are going to end up? Those who are bright and could make a difference have already left the country or are planning to leave. |
