Former Stellenbosch University student Theuns du Toit has lost his appeal against his expulsion from the university. He was caught on camera urinating on the property of fellow student Babalo Ndwayana. Twitter responded:
@Jamilfarouk
It is the sheer arrogance of even trying to appeal. Shows just how little he considered the impact of his actions, and he would not, because there is no recognition of the humanity of his target. @Jeanettedelang4
The punishment does not fit the crime. He should be sentenced to clean the mess, and serve his fellow students for the next year. Believe me, no one will do it again.
@holztrho
Are there not far more serious and important cases than a student misbehaving? The country is sinking in serious crimes, toddlers and children are raped and killed and we have resources for this?
@jobsmokoena
I blame your parents young man, they should have taught you long ago where to go when you feel pressed.
@Bossladyqueen_
What this boy did was disgusting but really it is not that serious. We have rapists out on bail killing small children.
@stevensees
The crime most certainly does not fit the punishment. Forget race, focus on these two young men’s lives. Stellenbosch University will reap sorrow, pain and the destruction of your beautiful institution. You have crossed the Rubicon.
@Isephara
Yes prosecute him please, for the charges of housebreaking and malicious damage to property. @Uthandokayise
The fact that he appealed in the first place is on brand with the arrogance and entitlement of some people in South Africa.
@ganymedeworld
We can deal with one problem at a time. Don’t do this whole ‘whataboutism’ - it is a very poor argument in favour of lawlessness. One specific kid had his dignity impugned. Hooliganism does not excuse blatant racism.
