The country in which men have to wear beards

-

AFGHANISTAN rulers this week brought back the old-style method of punishment for women and men. Beheading, cutting off hands, stoning of women, physical punishment by being whipped in public, all women to cover heads, all men to grow beards, women not allowed to work, women not allowed to be in public unless accompanied by a male from the family, no makeup or western style clothes. Human rights no longer exist in Afghanistan from this week, yet there is absolutely no country protesting about the treatment of citizens in Afghanistan. This is actually hell on earth. ln Iran the government passed a rule that 1 500 protesters who were arrested since the hijab protest began are to be sentenced to death, as reported on several news channels. This rule, according to protesters, is to instil fear in the minds of the Iranian people to stop the protests. According to former Iranian citizens, the protest will increase until there is total freedom and democracy from lslamic rule. | NARESH SINGH

Panyazi Lesufi is actually taking the lead in implementing practical initiatives to rid the community of nyaope. Well done! Hoping to hear soon from our Honourable Premier on the KZN government’s implementation of these urgent measures to address the scourge. It will bring much-needed relief to the grandmothers at home under siege by these kids addicted to Ice and nyaope. It’s time for KZN to catch up with Gauteng. | SHAUN GOVENDER

How has education come a long way, for the ministry, the bigwigs or the man on the street? Children still spend hours on the road, there’s so much violence and crime at schools, special needs are not addressed, learners are just pushed from grade to grade and of course the cherry on the top is they’re more interested in sex than education. Teenager pregnancies prove this. | KRISHNEE

Zweli Mkhize is vying for the presidency of the ANC. How can the branches support a corrupt person? Lest we forget the Brahmin bulls provided by Ithala Bank to his wife May. Dr Mkhize was head of the ANC government business and the MEC for Economic Development in KZN and Ithala is an entity of the Department of Economic Development. His more recent involvement with Digital Vibes while health minister also hangs over his head. | ANON

The news that Pieter-steff du Toit has been handed a three-week ban is tough, rough and thoroughly unfair when you consider that Kwagga Smith pushed Du Toit violently into the opposing team player. Really sucky. Poor decision-making all around. | LINDA KORTE

CSA board: The major problem is they are trying to be politically correct, fighting for their cash status rather than selecting the best players of whatever colour. Australia and England even select South African players, the jokes are on us. We do need a coach with knowledge and backbone but, of course, it’s the fear of the race card, what a shame for a country with so much talent. | RODGER PETERSEN

A pit bull is ranked 5th as the most dangerous dog. Out of all the attacks that I was part of the owners were not doing what they should have. The breed that I was attacked by is actually one that most people praise and love. | MICHAEL BATES
