The correctional services department says it will seek leave to appeal against the SCA’S ruling that Jacob Zuma was unlawfully granted medical parole and should return to prison. Twitter responded:

@Landrosa1

What prospects of success are there when the Medical Parole Board did not recommend parole? It’s a waste of taxpayers’ money. Anyway it’s not in my interest that he should go to jail for this case, Correctional Services should have rather looked at ways of mitigating it.

@Mohamed15420674

When it comes to President Zuma, the SA judiciary is the opposite of everything I learnt in Law School. One was hoping for an academic scholarship declaring this case as moot. The sentence has been served under the auspices of the DCS. What’s the fuss about?

@ramatiase

I disagree with the judgment. JZ used his own analysis and we all know that it’s not his strongest point – watch how he loses at SCA.

@ramatiase

They incorrectly interpreted the Correctional Services Act where they say a commissioner has powers to make a call but this relates to imprisonment under 24 months, so this one does not need medical parole but standard parole.

@Erikmafua

What is sad about this whole process is that taxpayers’ monies are being wasted on nonsense. They are playing politics before the ANC conference, nothing else, it is just to calm down the so-called RET forces for now.

@nozangelo

They shouldn’t bother appealing, but just ask President JG Zuma to drive to Estcourt & on arrival sign docs of release as he has done his time on medical parole under the strict supervision of correctional services.

@Eaziwey

Correctional services is used to fight ANC factional fights. The question is, will Correctional services go to such lengths if it was another South African? Now South Africans can see how ANC deployees are messing up government institutions.

@zuma_jabulani

What an interesting move indeed. Thank God to be with us all the time of the darkness in this country.

@thulaniskosana3

They shouldn’t even dignify that absurd self-contradictory ‘judgment’ with an appeal and just releas a statement to note the outcome of proceedings but reaffirm that Zuma has completed the Zondo-imposed sentence.

@stoottoot

So this is the problem. Allowed the Guptas to steal this country blind and now that he is old, he shouldn’t be prosecuted because he is old. If you are old enough to commit the crime it shouldn’t matter how old you are when it comes time to pay the piper.
