R75 million worth of cocaine was found hidden in oranges, shipped to the UK from South Africa. This is how Twitter reacted:
@nondabula1
And the risk to that is our citrus will be high-risk and be treated as such, resulting in higher costs. Commerce in those countries will not wish to buy from us. There go the jobs in Eastern and Western Cape dragging us into the pit.
@Semauth2
Every shipment has a waybill, which specifies who and where is it from, who and where is it going to, making it so easy to trace who that someone is.
@Garrisonshopper
These criminals must be from somewhere. SA as a whole is just a crime scene.
@Rhyscaro
Tightly packed cocaine most likely has a higher density than an orange. That could have been what alarmed authorities.
@nonhlanhlamalob
The government does not want to deal with illegal immigrants. Nigerians in particular are known as drug lords because they do not want to be caught up in xhenophobia.
@Chelsea20185
After the president and his entourage went to the UK last week, this week it’s showing the embarrassing side.
@3deesa
South African laws are so weak, there are a lot of illegal activities happening in this country. Criminals are roaming freely; illegal immigrants, drugs, human trafficking, brutal assassinations etc. Look at those criminals who ran from their country to hide here.
@DALG69
Legalise cannabis then put all that wasted money that is used policing a war you will never win on keeping murderers, rapists and paedophiles in jail.
@13_tumelo1
The fact he did that in SA and got caught in the UK worries me about how SA’S border security is passive in these things. Not long ago a Botswana lady did the same and got caught in another country but easily bypassed SA’S border security at the airport. Shameless.
@SWROCU
We have stopped more than 230 kilos of cocaine from reaching the streets – concealed in shipments of animal feed from Columbia and oranges from South Africa.
