Ethekwini maintenance skills questioned

- ODDS & ENDS | ZRS | NARESH SINGH | HENRY TSHABALALA

COULD the ethekwini Municipality Water and Sanitation Department please not send a “100% affirmative action plumber” to fix this fault near 234 Trenance Park Drive, Phoenix. This is the fourth time that this plumber has been sent and he still cannot fix the fault. They do not have merit to fix the faults as ethekwini municipality employs staff based on affirmative action.

It must be difficult to be a prison warder. Hardcore criminals are more armed and resourced than the police. Imagine prison warders guarding those criminals without them carrying guns? You see it when walking in malls on foot – no security or anything. It is a very dangerous job. | IZWE LETHU

The Tata group of companies – an extremely successful group in India – recently bought Air India from the government. Within months of taking over, Air India started making profits. This week, this powerful group signed a merger agreement with Singapore Airline – a world-class group – to become the second largest airline company on the planet. The Tata group has a very strong policy of employing only the best person suitable for the position. If only the ANC could adopt this policy in all our government departments, all SOES (state-owned enterprises) would have been successful. It does not matter which faction fills the top position, because after three months, the next president and their government will be corrupt. Look around – the only new investment is more new luxury apartments and housing estates – which are bought off by foreigners as an investment. This is only temporary job creation in the lower labour sector. Those students with diplomas and degrees – thousands of them will continue to remain unemployed. What we need is a system like China and India – both according to the IMF (International Monetary Fund) will continue to grow at 7 to 8 % a year. This system cannot be implemented as long as we have the ANC in power. It will take many years before the majority realise that for change to happen, a very strong leadership is necessary. A strong and high standard of education is necessary – which is most important. Only the most educated and qualified for all government jobs and total accountability for every R100 spent of taxpayers money. These are the four pillars for a solid foundation. No country in Africa has ever managed this in over 50 years.

POLITICS

It’s amazing the ANC did not protest when Clive Derby-lewis and Eugene de Kok were granted parole and given handsome benefits, but protested and picketed when the trigger-man, Walus, was ordered by the judges appointed by the ANC leadership. Seems the ANC needs a talking to, because an MK veteran will knife Walus before he’s released. (Someone’s already tried.) Sounds like someone does not want Walus to talk. | DV

The ANC has no tradition in obeying court orders or respecting democratic law. They should focus on clearing up the mess they made of this country for the last 28 years. But that is not their priority, or their competency, for that matter. | GILLES COLARD

CORRUPTION

This won’t be the full report as we know there’s manipulation and tampering with such reports in order to conceal any horrible activity. So if this comes out, it will proclaim he (Ramaphosa) did not do any misconduct – and that would be the exact point. These guys play more ball behind such cases, more than we think. Bribery can run underground to those who compiled all these documents and omit some sensitive data – which can tarnish his name and reputation. Everybody can be bribed in this country – no matter where or what your position is in government.
