Church leaders intervene in hospital crisis

-

PASTORS Roy Nair, Malcolm Nair, Seekol and Tracey Williams met with the Wentworth Hospital Board and the CL Rights Commissioners with regards to religious pastors not allowed to see patients and the negligence in the hospital.

All the concerns were raised and an apology was given. However, everything raised will go to Parliament for further investigation.

My letter raised concerns of the following: negligence; shortage of medication; cleanliness of toilets; Batho Pele principles not been practised; code of conduct: How nurses and other hospital staff treat patients; the rudeness of the security service and the clinic also running in slow motion.

The commissioners themselves raised great concern about the issues raised and will address in Parliament.

The meeting has opened a better communication with the pastors, organisation and with hospital management and staff who attended. However, our community needs assistance.

We are here to help as some rules have been set in place. However, due to Covid-19 protocols special arrangements will be made prior to going to the hospital to visit your loved one. Our DA councillors for ward 66 and ward 68 are not showing any interest or concern to a hospital that serves our community. Days after the patient passed away, the pastor received a call from ward 68 councillor and ward 66. Unprofessional on all levels.

This should be prioritised. Patients cannot fear going to hospital and speaking out because of mistreatment.

We are here to help you the best we can and bring a positive impact to this community. Any problems at the hospital please don’t hesitate to contact Pastor Roy Nair 083 691 8251 or Tracey Williams on 074 703 1393.
