Dolphins know they have to turn it around
THE Dolphins will shift their focus to white-ball cricket again as they kick-start their Cricket South Africa One-day Cup against the Rocks in Paarl today.
The Dolphins will go into the competition with an exciting line-up, with two away matches to get their campaign underway.
“We know that we have to turn it around this year after a disappointing 50 over tournament last year and we have the squad to do that," Dolphins assistant coach Quinton Friend said.
“White-ball cricket is well suited to the Dolphins brand, and we have versatile players across formats which means that we are good in all facets of the game in white-ball cricket.
“We know that we have got to turn it around this year, and we are confident that we will.
“With Andile Phehlukwayo available, and it seems like David Miller will be available from around the 5th of December so having two national players is a massive asset to us.”
The Dolphins take on the
Rocks today and then face Western Province on Sunday. Friend knows that these two matches are going to be crucial in the greater scheme of the competition.
“If we can go down to the Cape and pick up a few wins on the road to start, it will really set us up well for the competition,” he said.
“It’s always a challenge when you have to play away from home, and it will be nice to get the Durban faithful into the stadium when we come back home.
“If we start well in the competition then I think we’ll see people coming to support us.”
The Dolphins welcome back all-rounder Ruan de Swardt to the squad and Brad Porteous has also been included in the squad for the first two matches of the tournament.
