Witness the rot and wisely decide who to vote for
WARD 73 in Chatsworth is being hotly contested, with senior leaders of the ANC and DA visiting the township before the by-elections. Voters must vote intelligently and think out of the box. Examine and reflect at how our once beautiful ethekwini Municipality has gone downhill with businesses permitted in residential areas, parks destroyed for houses for friends, crime, corruption, overgrown bushes, leaking sewerage lines, collapsing infrastructure and our once revered metro police now protecting councillors, while there is havoc at non functional traffic lights and drug dens growing. Our by-laws are just not being enforced. We therefore need new political leadership in ethekwini.
WE WOULD not wish to hear of the fight between the king and Prince Buthelezi. We love and trust Prince Buthelezi. He has been in this position for years. He has experience.
Besides, he is not hungry for a position but for the nation that may fall apart if he leaves or dies. The Zulu nation is about to collapse. Let Shenge lead until his last minutes. Yes, he is old, but his leadership is still needed and productive to the Zulu nation. I ANON.
IT APPEARS the Employment Equity Act act has not been well thought out. If a company is formed to employ 50 people, it would mean if one person is an Indian, the company would be in violation of the act. Also, efficiency is doing things right and effectiveness is doing the right things. For South Africa to progress, we need a humanitarian society, not a prejudiced society. Where do tolerance, dignity, equality, fit into this act? I HAROON KHAN.
THE rift between our King Mesizulu and Mtwanapendangene Prince Buthelezi is not good for our country and the Kingship. We love both of them. You cannot be asked to choose between the grandfather and his grandson. Let them fix the rift before it gets out of hand. I MOPEDI MOKONE.
ODDS AND ENDS
NEW Smart City in KZN. That’s great news. But there’s no clarity on the date of completion. I hope you are going to follow developments and update the nation. I ANON.
TRUCKS seem to be a general problem now with the Metro doing nothing about it. In Umbilo we have these huge 26-wheeler monsters parking on pavements, blocking driveways. L letters to the Metro Police are not answered. Any suggestions? I ANON.
I READ Nkululeko's wonderful story. In his findings for his Master’s, I want to add that any postoppressive government has traits of wanting to oppress. We have open education, but sometimes highly questionable. We have a civil society that has been muted due to its dependency on the government for funding. The unqualified employees would be out of job if civil society had autonomy from the state. The government is rotten and restoration is a mission impossible without eroding everyone and replacing them. Older employees who had a taste of apartheid and know how to do work diligently are taken out of jobs and replaced by these young thieves. Drinking at work and going around flashing taxpayers’ contributions is the norm. People get employed not because they deserve it, but because they are connected. I ANON.
I AM residing in Umhlatuzana township. I am very disappointed about the collection of orange bags. I heard from a neighbour that bags were collected on a Friday. I have about five bags and don’t like the plastic waste to go to the landfill. I would be really grateful to hear what’s being done. I TIMA.
I READ about the orange bag waste debacle. Was this ever clearly put out to the public? Keep in mind the platforms to which people actually gravitate to read or hear any information that could be important. And bear in mind that people in rural areas do not have the luxury of reading papers and going on Facebook, etc due to bad connectivity or no wi-fi, etc. I only found out about the bags after I received a batch, and then, when we used them, we eventually had to go dump them ourselves because they were never collected. ethekwini criminal syndicates should step aside and allow for real dedicated people to do the actual jobs they’re employed to do.
