The Durban traveller experience has more to offer

- STAFF REPORTER

BEST known as a tourist attraction hub, Durban will be hosting Africa’s Travel Indaba from May 13 to 16 – bringing a welcome financial boost to the city.

Durban is well known as a city that has attracted a lot of tourists over the years, so it’s no surprise that it continues to do so.

The city has been transformed to offer a plethora of things to do for business and leisure. Not only does the influx of visitors excite the city, but the road construction and upgrades, refurbishment of buildings and the coastlands being improved has seen an immense growth in the numbers of people taking advanatge of it all

There are a lot of reasons why Durban is still the core tourist attraction hub. Affordability and value for money is one of them, the natural beauty of its scenic locations, the world-class facilities, the warm weather, and a lot of fun activities to explore for family, friends and even associates.

The city has made a great name for itself with the iconic Moses Mabhida Stadium, which was built between 2007 and 2009, and which has hosted massive events such as the 2010 Fifa World Cup, the Top Gear Festival, the

Essence Festival Durban as well as the highly anticipated Comrades Marathon, which takes place every year.

The facility also offers school tours, availability for bookings for sports events, conferences, music festivals and adrenalin-pumping activities such as bungee jumping and riding the sky car to capture a thrilling view of the city.

Another landmark that Durban has to offer has to be the design masterpiece Oceans Mall, established in 2022. The modern-day curated interior and exterior of the building is of world-class standards, you would swear you were walking into paradise filled with restaurants, international clothing brands stores and other activities within. The mall is close to the breathtaking umhlanga Beach, the famous Pearls of umhlanga, and the Beverly Hills.

Moreover, you can never say you have visited Durban without visiting some of the beach locations, such as one of the world’s largest aquariums – ushaka Marine World, which is located on the coastline, sandy beach.

The theme park consists of restaurants, cafes, water activities, entertainment, and dolphin/seal choreographed shows among many other things to enjoy.

ushaka Marine has scooped some accolades to make it the top landmark to visit in Durban, this includes a certificate from Travel Advisers, and ushaka Marine came third place for the Sunday Times Generation Next (for six consecutive years).

With the Africa’s Travel Indaba taking place in a few days, many other Durban-based attractions will capitalise on the opportunity to market their offerings since visitors will be looking for recreational activities to do. This will augur well for the local economy.
