Guest con­duc­tor Bran­don Phillips of Cape Town and Rus­sian cel­list Alexan­der Bu­zlov en­joyed the sun be­tween re­hearsals at the Dur­ban beach­front’s skate­board park. Phillips is the artis­tic di­rec­tor and con­duc­tor of the Cape Town Youth Or­ches­tra and the res­i­dent con­duc­tor of the Cape Phil­har­monic Or­ches­tra. He has been hon­oured by Western Cape Arts and Cul­ture MEC Ivan Meyer for his work with young peo­ple. Moscow-born Bu­zlov tu­tors stu­dents at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Con­ser­va­tory. Phillips was on the podium to­day at the Play­house Opera, con­duct­ing the KZN Phil­har­monic Or­ches­tra for the sec­ond con­cert in the or­ches­tra’s four-week Win­ter Sym­phony Sea­son, dur­ing which Bu­zlov took the spot­light to per­form Édouard Lalo’s Cello Con­certo.
