Cor­nelius ac­cused found guilty

HAN­NAH Cor­nelius’s friend who sur­vived the hi­jack­ing that led to her mur­der said he was re­lieved af­ter their at­tack­ers were con­victed yes­ter­day.

Ch­es­lin Marsh, 22, at­tended judg­ment pro­ceed­ings at the Western Cape High Court wear­ing a T-shirt bear­ing a photo of his dead friend.

Judge Rosheni Al­lie found three of the four men on trial guilty of the rape and mur­der of Cor­nelius, say­ing the State had proven be­yond rea­son­able doubt that Ver­non Wit­booi, Ger­aldo Par­sons and Eben van Niek­erk were guilty of all 10 charges they faced, in­clud­ing the at­tempted mur­der of Marsh and the kid­nap­ping of Marsh, Cor­nelius and Mimi Oc­to­ber. They were also con­victed of four charges of rob­bery with ag­gra­vat­ing cir­cum­stances. Fourth ac­cused Nash­ville Julius was con­victed of two charges of rob­bery with ag­gra­vat­ing cir­cum­stances and two charges of kid­nap­ping.

Cor­nelius, 21, and Marsh were hi­jacked in Stel­len­bosch on May 27 last year. Cor­nelius was found dead a few hours later close to a wine farm.
