US hypocritical in stance towards ICC
HOW HYPOCRITICAL of the US to want to be the international policeman of other countries, but to refuse to submit to the authority of the International Criminal Court itself (“Call on ICC to resist US threat to weaken it”, Daily News, November 4).
The US wants to be free to meddle anywhere in the world with complete impunity, not being held responsible for any misdeeds by its personnel or agents.
It is this type of attitude and behaviour which fuels the narrative that the ICC and other similar bodies target only weak, usually African, countries and leaders for sanction and stokes anger against it.
With the US currently too strong for any other country to bring to heel, I welcome the rise of China in influence as a counter. K MOONSAMY Pietermaritzburg
