Cops moving up the ladder
POLICE officers are moving up the ranks in droves.
That is due to Police Minister Bheki Cele, who has made good on his promise to promote thousands of officers who have served in the same rank for years, with the first batch of 28 000 up for promotion this financial year.
Earlier in the year, Cele tabled the police’s 2018/19 budget vote, vowing to roll out the process over the next three financial years.
In April, he said the police needed R2 billion to promote officers.
“We made a commitment with management to say we will be working on promoting those people…
“We are pleased to announce the grade progression of members. There will be a regrading of certain categories, which will increase the number of people promoted,” the police minister said.
