RAMAPHOSA’S LESSONS FROM MADIBA

Destiny Man - - COVER FEATURE -

Consultative leadership

“Madiba always wanted to hear the views of other people, particularly those whose views differed from his own. This characteristic has greatly influenced my own leadership. I like to hear the opinions of other people so that I can formulate a decision having canvassed a variety of views, including those that may be contrary to my own.”

Selflessness

“Madiba never considered his personal interests. He always placed others first.”

Modesty and humility

“Because Madiba was a very confident man, it often masked his modesty. His modesty was underpinned by humility. He never expressed his confidence through arrogance, but was always forthright. He succeeded in balancing various shades of his personality in a way that camouflaged his weaknesses.”

Compassion

“Madiba was compassionate to a fault. He embraced humanity beyond limits. But what stood out was that he always wanted to be on the side of the vulnerable, the weak and the downtrodden.”
