She’s not unbearable...
A Lithuanian couple recently beat 53 others from 13 countries to claim the coveted winners’ gong at the World Wife-Carrying Championships in the small Finnish town of Sonkajarvi, as thousands of fans cheered from the stands.
Established in 1997 and inspired by the 19th-century legend of Ronkainen the Robber, the race sees men drape their spouses over their shoulders and attempt to cover an obstacle-strewn course. The prize? The wife’s weight in beer. The official website draws parallels between wife-carrying and eroticism. “Intuitive understanding of the signals sent by the partner are essential in both of them – and sometimes also whipping.”
Well, it’s one way of staving off divorce lawyers.
