DEBORA SIYAYA, MEDIA COMMUNICATIONS CO-ORDINATOR: CLARINS
Describe a typical working day. Implementing media and PR campaigns and ensuring that opportunities across media platforms are maximised.
Which skills are important for your job?
Quick thinking – the industry I work in is fastpaced and dynamic, so you need to adapt to changes rapidly in order to remain relevant. It’s important to continually keep up with the latest industry trends.
What’s the best skincare advice you’ve ever received? Never fail to wash your make-up off each night, no matter how tired you are, and exfoliate twice a week. It really makes a difference. Also use moisturiser every single day and night: wrinkles don’t like hydrated skin!
What’s the most overlooked aspect of your industry? The beauty industry is more diverse than people think. With global trends shifting to online, beauty brands have an opportunity to build credibility by tapping into entertaining and educational content. E-commerce is huge, with more and more consumers wanting digital experiences. They can now get almost anything they want online, as well as personal recommendations and product trials. The digital market is a lot easier and less time-consuming.
What’s your idea of the perfect dinner party?
A view of Jo’burg’s city lights in a relaxed, cosy atmosphere that’s different from my everyday space, with candles.
