Malema files heads of argument

- MICHELLE PIETERSEN POLITICAL BUREAU

ANC YOUTH League leader Julius Malema’s fight for his political future has now reached the ANC’S national disciplinary committee of appeals (NDCA), after his defence team submitted its heads of argument yesterday.

The heads of argument in the cases of Malema, his deputy Ronald Lamola, youth league secretary-general Sindiso Magaqa, his deputy Kenetswe Mosenogi, treasurer-general Pule Mabe and spokesman Floyd Shivambu were to have been filed by the close of business yesterday..

Advocates Patrick Mtshaulana and Dali Mpofu, who represented the young lions during their protracted disciplinary hearings last year, are set to present their clients’ legal argu- ments next Monday.

Mtshaulana said yesterday that the heads of argument had been sent to the NDCA and would reach it before the deadline.

ANC spokesman, Keith Khoza, could not be reached to establish if the NDCA had received the documents, while spokesman Jackson Mthembu was in a meeting.

In November last year, Malema was found guilty of sowing divisions, misconduct and bringing the party into disrepute, Shivambu of bringing the party into disrepute and the other youth leaders of misconduct.

Malema was slapped with a fiveyear suspension from the ANC and the league, Shivambu a three-year suspension and the remaining leaders were handed suspended sentences.

Malema’s lawyers will attempt to have all the findings overturned.
