Two arrested in Kuruman for businessman’s murder
TWO MEN have been arrested in connection with the murder of Kuruman businessman John Arthur Fraser, 56, who was killed during an armed robbery at his house in Steenbok Street, Kuruman, on July 4.
He was shot in the chest while his wife Marie Fraser, 54, survived a gunshot wound to her shoulder.
After the robbery, the suspects fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash, cellphones and a shotgun after they forced Marie to open the safe.
Police spokesman, Lieutenant Olebogeng Tawana, said the arrests followed an in-depth investigation by the Provincial Crime Intelligence Unit and the Kimberley Organised Crime Unit in conjunction with Kuruman detectives.
He said that a 24-year-old man was arrested on October 16 in Kuruman after his vehicle was linked to the crime and confiscated.
“Another 23-year-old man was arrested yesterday in Mmabatho, North West, in connection with this case. His Volkswagen Golf was confiscated by the police as evidence. It is believed that it was used on the day of the murder and armed robbery.
“Furthermore the investigation shows that this suspect is wanted for another murder that he had allegedly committed in Mmabatho during September this year.”
Tawana added that more arrests were imminent.
“The 24-year-old man appeared in the Kuruman Magistrate’s Court yesterday on charges of armed robbery and murder. The 23-year-old man is due to appear in court on Monday.”
